CNC Machining

As part of our manufacturing process, we make use of many techniques, and one of the most common in our industry is CNC Machining. Alongside other methods of plastic forming we utilise CNC machining to produce a huge array of point of sale and retail display products. This method isn’t only useful when working with plastic material. We can also use it to machine wood, metal, and glass.

CNC machining is computer numerical control machining. A high specification piece of software (Alphacam 3 Axis CAD/CAM software) is used to control the head of the machine, that head could be fitted with a laser cutter, a blade or a drill. This manipulates the material to form the shapes required. The computer interprets highly detailed design drawings to produce items that are exactly the same every single time.

The information used by the software to control the machine will be based on the original design for the component, and when clients work with ASH Plastics Ltd, we can take their initial concept and use it to create a detailed design which can then be used in our CNC machining software. The advantages of CNC machining include the fact that it can deliver results to the tightest possible tolerances no matter how complex the shape which is being created needs to be and it guarantees that the last product produced is identical to the first. This is crucial for bulk order or repeat customer requirements.

CNC machining also allows us to work very fast, which as a key supplier to many industries, is vitally important. We understand the tight delivery times many retailers and shop fitters have to work to, and we make sure that we can deliver on time as a matter of standard.

What is CNC Machining?

Computer Numerical Control, or CNC, machining is a manufacturing process in which pre-programmed software controls the movement of a factory machine tool. This process allows for complex machining, from routers, mills, lathes and grinders etc to carry out identical, repeated tasks and operations returning the exact same result every single time.
