Plastic Welding

Plastic welding is used to join thermoplastics by heating materials until they are malleable and then joined into a single, unified structure. Plastic welds can usually be used on the following materials: ABS, Polycarbonate, Polyethylene, PET, Acrylic, Polypropylene and Foam PVC.

When two surfaces are being connected both of them should be clean in order to achieve the best possible weld quality. Plastics are heated, once they both reach their melting point, they interact and once they are cooled again, they are fused completely.

There are several types of plastic welding techniques including: hot gas, fan welding, laser welding, ultrasonic, spin welding and vibration welding. Typically, the most common method of welding we use is solvent welding. This method does not rely on heating up the materials. Instead, the solvent is applied, and chemical bonds are produced between surfaces, and this creates a very strong seem. This is a very simple, effective and inexpensive way to weld plastics together.
